I just decluttered and reorganized my closet and black is obviously my go-to color.

For Best Results

There’s nothing like having a go-to outfit that is quick, simple, and sophisticated. If you’re not intentional though, a look can go flat quick.

Keep these tips in mind when putting your outfits together to leave a lasting impression!

  • Go unconventional. Invest in metallics, silks, sparkly, velvet, lace, or any print that doesn’t make you look like a blank chalkboard. They reflect light different to create variety in an outfit. Go for flare skirts, ruffles, off the shoulder etc.
  • Take care of your clothes. One drawback is that lint or pet hair will be obvious in lighting. Invest in a lint roller and use it generously. It’s important to wash your clothes in cool water to prevent fading and air dry your clothes. Check yourself before you leave the house.
  • Splurge on accessories. A bold pop of color will elevate an all-black outfit even more. Go for a brightly-colored purse or vibrant set of eyeglasses to make an outfit look rich against a solid canvas of black.

Outfit #1: Chic Pleated Skirt and Velvet Crop Sweater

On my most recent thrift trip, I found this adorable shiny pleated skirt that catches the light perfectly.

Is it polyester? Yes. But it looks chic and I paid $5 for it which is how much we should ALL be paying for polyester.

Not only is a long skirt a classic and feminine idea but the shape of this hides the fact that I have lost so much weight and my legs are a bit skinner than I would prefer.

The top is a crop sweater which balances out the long fit of the skirt.

The best thing about this outfit is I can wear it for just a grocery store run or throughout the day on a vacation.

It also translates from day to night very well.

  • Forever 21 Velvet Crop Sweater
  • Pleated Skirt: Goodwill
  • Ballet Flats: Target

Outfit #2 Cozy Turtleneck with Pleated Skirt and Leather Jacket

Black is a power move but adding a turtleneck and a pair of ankle booties?

Now you are officially a boss, a power woman on her way to close a multi-million dollar deal.

The main outfit doesn’t offer much in the form of texture, which is why I would top this off with a leather jacket to add edge and play with sheerness through leggings.

This outfit is perfect for fall or winter and can translate to any semi-formal outings.

  • Turtleneck: Ross
  • Leather Jacket: Goodwill
  • Pencil Skirt: Burlington
  • Rockport Ankle Boots

Outfit #3 Simple Ruffle Shorts, One and Shawl

These shorts have been my favorite lately because of the ruffles on the waist. I would wear this as an everyday casual look for walking around town.

As I mentioned, I’m going through a weight loss phase that I’m not too fond of so anything to add shape and give me dimension I love.

I’m currently searching for this same style in pants. Since it’s loose and flowy on the bottom, I paired it with a tight fitting onesie on top and a shawl to match for when I’m cold indoors..

I would pair these with simple ballet flats. This is my favorite outfit to look cute without drawing too much attention to ones self.

  • Onesie Shirt: Ross
  • Shorts: Ross
  • Shawl: Target

Outfit #4 Flare Dress and Leather Jacket

This BCBG is an exact copy of my burgundy dress from an earlier post. I found both of them at Goodwill and snagged them up.

I love this dress because of the flare at the bottom, which gives me shape. It’s basic enough for layering but has small interesting details like the sheer section on the top.

To play up the sheerness, I paired this dress with patterned leggings for a little skin and topping off with my favorite ankle booties.

Then the leather jacket to match. I would wear this outfit to a dinner date, movie night, or pretty much anywhere actually.

That’s the beauty of black, it looks good everywhere you go!

  • Dress: Goodwill
  • Jacket: Goodwill
  • Leggings: Target

Outfit #5 Professional Blazer, Turtleneck and Pencil Skirt

Pencil skirts are another boss move but since I work from home, this aren’t functional or ideal for me.

It could be a cute interview outfit with the high waisted skirt and crop turtleneck.

But I love this pencil skirt due to the embroidery details on the fabric. It’s not super in your face, but subtle enough to stand out, be different, and be remembered.

This outfit is perfect to wear to any interview. If the black is too much, swap out the turtleneck for grey.

But me personally, black says I ain’t playing around!

  • Turtleneck: Ross
  • Cardigan: Target
  • Skirt: Burlington
  • Leggings: Target
